After a certain age, there comes a time when you skin demands repair and maintenance. Dark spots on your face are disturbing and they make you hunt for the makeup kit always.
What causes dark spots?
Dark spots also known as hyperpigmentation are caused by the over production of melanin in the skin by melanocytes at certain areas. Melanin is a pigment produced by the body that gives color to your hair, eyes and skin. Apart from this the other reasons behind the dark patches on the skin are:
- Sun exposure
- Skin disorder
- Allergy because of some skin care products
- Acne, eczema, psoriasis
As per a research by the society of Dermatology skincare specialists (SDSS), it was found out that approximately 88% of women don’t know the right products for their skin.
Home remedies to get rid of dark spots:
Fortunately, there are a few natural home remedies which can help in overcoming this skin problem:
1. Lemon juice:
Lime juice is a rich source of flavonoids and other antioxidants which helps in making the dark spots light. You just have to mix the lemon juice with water and apply on the spots with cotton. Leave it for 20- 25 mins and then wash it with cold water. Try this for 2-3 weeks daily and you will see the difference.
2. Aloe Vera Gel:
Aloe vera gel is rich in aloin which helps in depigmenting the spots. You can take the gel directly from the leaf and massage your face with it. Leave it for 20-25 mins and then rinse with water. You must apply this daily for best results.
3. Apple Cidar vinegar:
Mix equal quantities of apple cidar vinegar and water and apply the mixture on the dark spots. Leave it for 15 mins and then rinse it with water.
You can apply butter milk on the dark spots and then after leaving it for 15- 20 mins rinse with lukewarm water. After rinsing, you can apply a simple moisturizer. If you have oily skin or acne then add a little bit of lime juice in it.
Parsley leaves have skin lightening properties and is one of the popular home remedies to get rid of dark spots. Make a paste of parsley leaves in a blender and apply this mixture on your face. Leave it for 20-30 mins and then rinse it with water. This can be applied once daily or on every alternate day for great results.
6. Apply Turmeric:
Turmeric contains an anti-oxidant called curcumin which has anti-melanogenic properties which reduces the dark spots. Mix the turmeric powder with water and make a think paste. Apply the mixture on affected areas for 15-20 mins and then rinse with water.
This is one of the easiest home remedies to get rid of dark spots. Cucumber has anti-oxidants which have skin lightening properties. For this you need to blend the cucumber and apply the mixture on the dark spots. Leave it for 20-25 mins and then rinse. Try to do this 1-2 times a day for best results.
Peel and remove the seeds of the fruit and blend it in a food processor. Apply the paste on your face and leave it for 20-30 mins and then rinse with lukewarm water. You can use this paste in the morning and before going to the bed. Significant difference will be visible in few days.
Apart from the home remedies mentioned above certain preventive measures could also be taken like avoiding direct sun, apply sunscreen before you go out etc. Acne or any kind of skin allergy should be treated immediately before it leaves any dark spot.
